Books and Gifts of Hope
A Cup Full of Wishes
Inspired by two things: A trip to Bali; for me, a place that was just inspiring, healing and magical. And… growing up in a home where both parents worked long hours, there was no such thing as bedtime stories, rather just “time for bed.” There was no “tucking in” or “story time.” The setting of this book is me as an adult reading a bedtime story to me as a child.
By sharing these wishes you will help a mom-to-be and give her child ownership to their (and a true) birthday…!
Medicine for Moms and Babies Ensuring Access to Healthcare
Every mom and baby should have access to some form of healthcare. Every year, in many parts of the world, far too many moms and babies die of preventable causes. This gift will save lives by providing malaria medications, antibiotics and other important medicines, as well as supplies such as stethoscopes, blood pressure cuffs and delivery tables. It will give moms and their babies the gift of health and hope for a thriving life together.
While travelling through India and China it broke my heart to learn how many children were ‘unidentified’ or ‘invisible’ or ‘ghosts’. A birth certificate which most of us take for granted is an open door, a bridge, and a shield. It provides access to essential human rights, and bestows an identity, the ability to vote and a say in shaping the world. Particularly for girls, it offers special protection against the perils of child marriage, child trafficking and forced or exploitative labour.
A Trip Around the World
Inspired by my maternal grandmother. The first book I ever remember receiving was a Christmas gift from her, “Around the World in Eighty Days” by Jules Verne.
Taking a child on a trip with these words and inspiring their imagination of the world around them, you will help nourish little bodies and feed the minds of our future with the gift of school.
Back to School Kit
Every child should have the basics for school: a pair of shoes, a school bag, a pencil, a notebook; simple items many families can’t afford, simple items that too often keep children out of school. This gift provides children with everything they need to get to the door of their classroom ready to learn – everything from shoes, books and supplies, to bursaries that help with transportation expenses and uniforms.
Filled with staples like beans, cooking oil, fortified cereal blends and sugar. It’s a basic food basket with an impact that is anything but! This gift of food for thousands of pregnant women, mothers and young children under five who are malnourished is a critical step to prevent a slide into a life-and-death situation and instead restore children to health. Basket by basket, we’ll be saving lives.
My Goat, My Pony?
A fun little story inspired by one of my own childhood experiences.
Sharing this story you will help provide access to education and help children enjoy the bliss of being a child as well as bring smiles to little faces.
It just might be the most unique gift any of us will ever give. It most certainly will be the most life-changing. Goat’s milk means important protein for growing children, especially girls. The sale of off springs means an income to pay for essentials – like an education – that open up opportunities for girls.
Clean Water for Families
When clean water is scarce, girls are usually tasked with finding it, forcing them to miss class. Community water solutions and training bring water and health to families, lifting burdens so girls can focus on collecting an education.
Colours of the World’s Rainbow
A fun book that will help children learn about the beautiful colours of life.
Colours! Together we all make a beautiful world rainbow. By sharing these colours you will help make the rainbow bigger as well as help it shine in all its glory!
Help Children with Disabilities
In many parts of the world, children with a disability are outcasts in their communities. Vulnerable to neglect and abuse, they are less likely to attend and complete school than abled children. This gift is about breaking barriers and creating learning environments where all children will flourish.
Help Refugee Children
Help reach refugee and domestically displaced children at the most critical time. As well as providing basic food, water and shelter, this gift keeps children safe. It supports reuniting them with their families and giving them hope that life will once again feel normal.
